US Ambassador pays courtesy call on Energy Minister


Kathmandu, 25 August. US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has paid a courtesy call to Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal. During the meeting held at the Ministry on Monday, they discussed issues of mutual interest, according to the Secretariat of the Minister of Energy.

On the occasion, Ambassador Berry expressed his country's financial and technical assistance to Nepal in the field of energy and water resources and expressed confidence that further cooperation would be extended in the coming days.

Noting that the United States has been active in human resource development and multilateral cooperation, he expressed confidence in further cooperation on the issue of climate change. Ambassador Berry noted the importance of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for energy development and called for initiatives to move it forward. "We are ready to clarify anything about the MCC, the purpose of which is to transfer skills and knowledge," he said.

In response, Minister Bhusal thanked the US Government and people for their support during Nepal's development and disaster. "Thank you very much for helping the US government provide the vaccine against COVID-19," she said.

On the Ambassador's request for MCC, Minister Bhusal said that Nepal would accept assistance in the interest of the people and the nation. "The MCC will be decided by the party, the government, and the parliament. The issue will be discussed at an appropriate time," she said. Stating that the US government's decision on climate change would benefit the world, Minister Bhusal said the world should unite to mitigate the effects of climate change.
