The involvement of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) is being investigated after a man went missing after falling into Mahakali while swimming from Tuin in Darchula on Friday.
According to locals and eyewitnesses, Jaisingh Dhami, 33, of Vyans Gaonpalika-2 fell into the Mahakali River after being cut by the SSB.
A search is on for him. Police said that he was not found for three days.
The Darchula District Administration Office and the Home Ministry said there was no confirmation of Indian security personnel's involvement in the incident.
Ananda Swaroop, district officer of Pithoragarh, India, on Saturday told Darchula chief district officer Siddharraj Joshi that SSB was not involved in the incident.
Bahadur Singh Dhami, a local, had lodged a complaint at the Indian Police Post, Pangla, demanding an investigation into the incident.
A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bir Singh Dhami has been deployed to investigate the incident. Nepal Police and the investigation team are also participating in the team.
The team had reached Khalanga from the district headquarters at around 7 pm on Saturday.
A police officer on duty said that the team visited the spot on Sunday and interrogated the locals.
"As it has been three days since the disappearance of the people, the victim could not be questioned much. Eyewitnesses have been asked to come to the district headquarters." They will come tomorrow, 'he said.
Two persons who were waiting for their turn after Jaisingh and Tuin operator Kalyan Singh Dhami were called to the District Police Office on Monday.
"The investigation is based on the statements of eyewitnesses. It will be clear after they say so," the police official said.
Police have already taken the statements of four people who crossed the Tuin and reached India before the incident that day.
He told the police that he saw two SSB youths at the place where Tuin was. Bahadur Singh Dhami is one of them.
They said that Jaisingh left his bag while swimming.
'It didn't look like it was cut, but it was SSB. He did not say whether he was about to open the door or what he did, 'said the police officer.
The electric wire used in Tuin was iron wire. The team that went to investigate the wire has not found it.
"The wearer pulled the wire and threw it away. Even if the wire was found, it would have been cut or not," he said.
According to him, Tuin operator Kalyan Singh Dhami has thrown the old wire in Mahakali thinking that it will not work.
Police are returning to the district on Monday as they could not find clear evidence. Eyewitness statements are seen to be helpful in the investigation of the incident.
