Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will captain the Kathmandu Kings XI. Kathmandu Kings are competing in the Everest Premier League (EPL) from 9 to 23 September. Earlier, Kathmandu Kings had competed in the EPL under the captaincy of Sompal Kami. Kathmandu Kings on Monday handed over the captaincy to Sandeep. In the last edition, Kathmandu Kings had made it to the playoffs.

The Kathmandu Kings had last year announced former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi as a marquee player. Afridi is one of the most popular foreign players in the EPL. Kathmandu Kings CEO Raj Jung Thapa informed that the world famous leg-spinner Sandeep, who has made a different place in the International T20 Franchise League, has been given the responsibility of captaincy. "Sandeep, who has made a name for himself in Nepal as well as in the world, will captain the Kathmandu Kings in the EPL," Thapa said. Sandeep had earlier competed in the domestic franchise league from Lalitpur. In 2018, he participated in only two games from Lalitpur. At the same time, Sandeep had left for EPL to participate in Australia's Big Wass T20.

Despite being busy in the International T20 League, Sandeep has also given time in the domestic league. He had recently captained Kathmandu Mayor 11 in the Kathmandu Mayor's Cup. Similarly, he played in the Pokhara Premier League by joining Biratnagar. Sandeep has also captained the national U-19 team. Sandeep, who has already taken over the captaincy, will not be uncomfortable to lead the Kathmandu Kings.

Sandeep said that he is very excited to compete with a world famous player like Afridi. "I am very happy to be the captain of the Kathmandu Kings on the occasion of my birthday," said Sandeep.
