DANG: A woman has been rescued after she was swept away by the Rapti River in Deukhuri. Tekrani Chaudhary, 40, of Gobardiha in Gadhwa Gaonpalika-3 of Deukhuri has been rescued from the Rapti River by a team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force last night.

Chaudhari was swept away by the river while extracting firewood at Rapti Ghat in Gobardih on Thursday afternoon. Tekrani said that the river could not come out due to its high speed and the water was flowing towards Wahab.

'After flowing for about eight kilometers, the waves washed away the shore. But I could not find out where he had reached. I stood on the island of Rapti holding straw. I came out of the water. I looked around and asked for help, ”he said.

Rapti Wari was picking local vegetables from Butakhawa village of Lamahi Municipality-4. They heard Tekrani asking for help and informed the police. A team of Deputy Inspector of Police Puran Malla, Bishnu KC, and others rushed to the spot from Lamahi Ward Police Office as soon as they got the news that people were trapped in the Rapti River.

Deputy Inspector at the Ward Police Office, Lamahi, Bishnu KC, and police constable Prakash Chaudhary jumped into the river after hearing the screams of a mountaineer trapped in the middle of the Rapti River for about four hours.

Deputy Inspector General of Police KC said that he was comforted when the rescue team of the Armed Police Force reached the spot. He said that he is currently undergoing primary treatment at Lamahi Hospital in Tekrani.
