Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement should be amended and passed.
He also questioned the government's silence on the MCC in the minimum common program. 'Didn't you make an agreement in your time? The artificial vote of 165 has already taken the vote of confidence. At a meeting of the Central Committee on Monday, Oli said, "We are clear. It is our belief that it should be passed with amendments according to the sentiments of the people based on the suggestions given by the task force formed by our party, intellectuals, and experts.
The MCC agreement is under consideration in Parliament. In the former Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), there was a controversy over whether to ratify the MCC agreement as it is or with amendments. Oli, who has been prime minister for 41 months since February 2074, had stressed that the MCC agreement should be passed by the parliament.
However, the CPN (Maoist) had formed a task force led by former prime minister Jhala Nath Khanal after protests by leaders including another chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. The task force was of the view that the MCC agreement could be ratified only by revision. However, the leaders complained that Oli, who was also the then chairman of the CPN (Maoist), did not take the initiative to amend the agreement.
