Elections are held in 60 countries of NRN, 20 countries are inactive

Barcelona. Elections have been held in the National Coordinating Councils of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in 60 countries. The election has been completed with the new leadership for the upcoming 2021-2023 term.

Out of 84 countries in 6 different regions of the world, 20 National Coordinating Councils have been inactive for a long time. The general secretary of the association, Dr. Hem Raj Sharma presented the figures while presenting a brief report on the General Convention on Wednesday.

Secretary General Dr. According to Sharma, a unanimous and unopposed working committee has been selected in 42 National Coordinating Councils. Elections were held online in 11 National Coordinating Councils and in person in seven National Coordinating Councils.

Working committees are yet to be selected in four different National Coordinating Councils. The UAE, Denmark, Portugal and Slovenia will also get new leadership soon, the report said.

Africa region

According to the report, unanimous and unopposed working committees have been selected in Botswana, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. But in the African region, Lesotho, Libya, Malawi and South Sudan have remained inactive.

Americas area

In the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica elected unanimous and unopposed working committees, while in Chile and the United States, elections were held online. But the union said the election was held in Canada by physical presence. Brazil is on the list of inactive NCCs.

Asia Pacific

In the Asia-Pacific region, unanimous and unopposed working committees have been selected in Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. According to the report, the elections were held online in China, Japan and South Korea. Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia are on the list of inactive NCCs of the Union.

Europe region

Even in Europe, which has the highest number of NCCs, NCCs like Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine are inactive. The report states that unanimous and unopposed working committees have been selected in Belarus, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland. Cyprus, Germany, Spain, Norway, France, and the UK conducted the election online, while Austria, Belgium, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal attended the election in person.

Middle East region

In the Middle East, the NCCs that select the unanimous and unopposed working committees are Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia held online elections, while Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen were inactive NCCs.

Oceania region

In the Oceania region, Australia has selected a new working committee by conducting elections online. Papua New Guinea and New Zealand have unanimously and unopposed working committees, while Vanuatu is on the list of inactive NCCs.

More than one lakh members

The general secretary of the association, Dr. According to a report released by Sharma, more than one lakh people from all over the world have joined the association. For the election of the office bearers of the 10th International Coordinating Council to be held from October 23 to 25, the National Coordinating Council will have to send the list of representatives to the Association (as provided in the constitution) by August 15.
