Kathmandu: It seems certain that the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress will not be held on time. Senior Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel has been expressing dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
On Monday morning, senior leader Poudel lamented that the current situation has been created due to the leadership. Poudel has also accused party president Sher Bahadur Deuba of leading the party to failure.
Poudel has accused the party of having to beg from the Election Commission because of Deuba.
The party constitution stipulates a four-year term. An extra year was added due to extraordinary circumstances. The constitution of the country has been extended for six months, 'Poudel said.
Congress had made public the final schedule for concluding the Central General Convention from September 4 to 5. However, showing the active membership dispute, the village-town ward convention scheduled for July 29, the village-municipality convention scheduled for July 30, the state assembly regional convention scheduled for July 8, and the regional assembly of the House of Representatives scheduled for July 8 - the only House of Representatives election. The district convention of the region has been postponed. Now, the district convention with more than one House of Representative's constituency will be held on July 10, and the state convention will be held on September 1 and 2. It has been decided that those conventions will not take place. Congress has also convened a central committee on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
Congress is holding discussions with the Election Commission on extending the party's term. However, no conclusion has been reached yet.
Senior leader Poudel has concluded that the failure to convene the convention despite the repeated deadlines was extreme. He said, "What could be worse than the current leadership's failure and negligence?"
