War Museum at Sindhuli, inaugurated by the President


The Sindhuligadhi War Museum has been inaugurated by President Vidyadevi Bhandari. President Bhandari inaugurated the war museum built by the Nepal Army with an investment of Rs 70 million on Wednesday.

A museum has been built in the historical Sindhuligadhi where Nepalis won the Nepal-British war in 1824 BS. During the inauguration, President Bhandari said that due to the bravery and struggle shown by our forefathers in the Sindhuligadhi war, Nepalis are now able to lead independent lives.

President Bhandari said that we have become Nepal and Nepali till today due to the struggle waged by the Nepal Army and Nepali citizens against the British army which came to occupy Nepal 253 years ago. She said that the establishment of the museum would develop the region as a tourist destination and would also increase its source of income.

The building of Sindhuligadhi War Museum was constructed by New Dragon / Siddhagadhi JV Koteshwar. The designer of the building is Architectural Development. Similarly, the interior decoration has been done by Alternate Infrastructure Pvt. Dhulikhel.

The museum has wartime letters, a timeline of the Sindhuligadhi war, war scenario in the eyes of the army, documentaries of Sindhuligadhi war, pictures of phased war, home weapons used in the war, wartime weapons, cannons used by British, Nepali warriors, British warriors, art pictures of Nepali warriors. There are art, wartime inscriptions, historical documents, history libraries. The museum also houses a full-length statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah and a sermon of Prithvi Narayan Shah.

The Barda Bahadur Battalion of the Nepal Army has taken charge of the construction management while the Kamalamai Municipality has been given the responsibility of running the war museum. The Sindhuligadhi War Museum also houses a map of Greater Nepal before the Sugauli Treaty and a map of Nepal (including Limpiyadhura, Lipulek, Kalapani) issued by the Government of Nepal in the last phase.

The foundation stone of the museum was laid by the then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ishwor Pokharel on 24 November 2073 BS. In front of the museum, a joint statue of Vanshu Gurung, Vanshraj Pandey, Shri Harsh Pant, and Bir Bhadra Upadhyaya has been erected and replaced.

In the battle of Sindhuligadi in September 1824, the Gurkha army led by Vansu Gurung defeated the British army equipped with modern weapons led by Captain Kinlock of the East India Company to capture Kathmandu.
