Veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has passed away. He died at the age of 98 on Wednesday morning.

Dilip Kumar died at Khar Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai at 7.30 am on Wednesday, said Dr Parker of the hospital.

Born on 11 December 1922 in Peshawar, then British India (now Pakistan), Dilip Kumar's real name was Mohammad Yusuf Khan. He started working in film at the age of 22. He had acted in the film 'Jwar Bhata' in 1944. However, the film did not receive much attention.

Dilip Kumar has acted in about 60 films in his five-decade career. He even refused to act in some films to be few but good.

His memorable films include Shaheed, Mela, Nadia Ke Paar, Babul, Footpath, Devdas, Naya Daur, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga-Jamuna, Ram and Shyam, Karma. Her last film was Qila, which was released in 1998.

Dilip Kumar has won eight Filmfare Awards. According to media reports, Dilip Kumar is at the forefront as the artist who has won the most awards.

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. In 1994, Dada Saheb received the Phalke Award. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2000 to 2006.

He was also awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz by Pakistan in 1998.
