PM Deuba taking oath

July 13, Kathmandu.

Newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has taken the oath of office and secrecy after the President's Office rectified the mistake made about his appointment. In addition, the Council of Ministers has been formed by appointing four ministers.

On Monday, the Supreme Court reconstituted the parliament and ordered to appoint Sher Bahadur Deuba, who had garnered the support of 149 lawmakers for the post of prime minister, by 5 pm as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution. One hour before the deadline set by the Supreme Court, the President's Office announced that Deuba had been appointed Prime Minister.

According to the President's Office, Deuba was appointed as the Prime Minister as per the decision of the Supreme Court. According to which article of the constitution it was said. After Deuba objected to this and took a stand not to take the oath without mentioning the article of the constitution, the swearing-in ceremony could not start at 6 o'clock.

After about two hours of discussion, the President's Office agreed to appoint the Prime Minister following the decision of the Supreme Court and Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Deuba immediately took the oath of office and secrecy before President Vidyadevi Bhandari.

Leaders of the coalition as well as senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal were also present at the swearing-in ceremony. However, the Chairman of the main opposition party UML and outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli did not attend.

Four ministers appointed

Newly appointed Prime Minister Deuba has expanded the cabinet on Tuesday. He has appointed Bal Krishna Khan from his own party Congress as Home Minister and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki as Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal have been appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation from the ruling coalition partner CPN-Maoist. All four ministers have been sworn in before the President.
