Sindhupalchowk and Manang disaster areas declared


Kathmandu. The government has declared Sindhupalchowk and Manang as disaster-prone areas.

According to government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, the cabinet meeting held on Monday declared the two districts as disaster-prone areas with effect from mid-October as per the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act 2074 BS.

He said, "According to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act 2074 BS, it has been decided to declare Sindhupalchowk and Manang districts as disaster-prone areas with effect till mid-October, 2078 BS."

The worst affected areas are Sindhupalchowk and Manang. The floods in Sindhupalchowk have washed away 26 houses and displaced 569 people.

According to the District Police Office, Manang, 53 houses were completely damaged and 26 were partially damaged in the floods. About a thousand people were affected when the Chame and Taal market areas of the district were inundated. Teams of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Nepal Red Cross Society, and others were deployed to rescue the victims.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 63 people have died, 35 are still missing and 63 have been injured in the monsoon this year.
