SI arrested for sexual abuse

SI of Nepal Police has been arrested on a charge of sexually abusing a foreign girl. Jitendra Narayan Mandal working at the District Traffic Police Office, Birtamod was arrested by the Area Police Office, Itahari on Monday.

A case of rape was registered against him at the Itahari Area Police Office on July 25. After the complaint was registered, the board was taken under control from Jhapa for investigation, said DSP Arjun KC of the Area Police Office.

DSP KC said that the investigation was started by the Sunsari District Court on Tuesday. A 23-year-old Myanmar girl who had taken refuge with the police after being sold by her own uncle had lodged a complaint against the ASI Mandal on August 26 alleging that she had been sexually abused for a long time.

It is mentioned in the complaint that the Mandal had raped the girl at a lodge at Itahari-6 on March 11, 2010. Even before that, it is said that Mandal kept her in a room for four years and sexually abused her saying that he would marry her.

According to the victim, she was kept in the same room when she went to Bhojpur, Jhapa, Itahari, and Lokhi. The young woman claims to have kept herself as his wife. She said that she had two abortions under the pressure of the Mandal.
