All passengers and crew members onboard the Russian AN-26 have died. A plane carrying 22 passengers from Russia's the Far East crashed on Tuesday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the plane, which was flying from Kamchatka to Palana, Russia, crashed about 3.8 kilometres from the airport. As soon as it reached the airport sky, the plane entered a thick fog and cloud. Authorities also cut off communication with the airport's radar system.
The plane was carrying 22 passengers, including a child, and six crew members. Russia's Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the pilot's fault, adverse weather or technical glitches.
The wreckage of the crashed plane was found scattered around the sea, nearby mountains and the airport. Sergei Gorb, deputy director of the Kamchatka Civil Aviation Authority, said the plane crashed into a rocky part of the sea. There have been air accidents on this route in the past as well.
