Olympics, athletics, and stress

Kathmandu. One Nepali athlete has yet to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in Japan. A total of five players from Nepal have participated in the competition.

Swimmers Gaurika Singh and Alex Shah and Kalpana Pariyar shooting completed their goal by setting a national record. Judoka Sonia Bhatt's wish to win could not be fulfilled. All four have exited the first round.

Judo and the shooting team have returned to Nepal. Gaurika Singh, who has been studying and swimming in the UK, is returning to London from Japan on Friday. She will now travel to the United States for further studies.

Along with the competition of athletics, Nepal's Tokyo Olympic journey will also end. But the manager of the Nepali athletics team will not be with the team. NOC had made the list public saying that Pitamber Timsina, Joint General Secretary of the Nepal Olympic Committee, would go to Tokyo as the manager of Athletics. Timsina, who is currently in the United States, was scheduled to leave for Japan. But the Nepali athletics team will be without a manager as he did not go at the last moment. NOC Vice President and Executive Director Chaturananda Rajvaidya, who is in Japan with Nepali Todi, confirmed that Pitamber Timsina will not come. He called and informed me that there was an injury in his hand. Now there is no manager of athletics. The chief the machine and the trainer will have to look after all the management, 'Rajvaidya told online news from Tokyo. Earlier, Timsana had mentioned on social media that she could not participate in the Olympics due to personal reasons.

The old scandal

This problem of athletics did not start only after reaching Japan. Before the start of the Olympics, problems in athletics had already started in Nepal.

Initially, it was decided that marathon runner Gopichandra Parki would go to the Tokyo Olympics. He also prepared for that for about 8 months. However, the NOC decided to take Saraswati Chaudhary to Tokyo through the Nepal Athletics Association, saying that there was information that Nepali athletes could participate in the women's 100 meters due to the high quota in the marathon.

When he could not go at the last moment, Gopichandra responded that he was being treated unfairly. He said that the mistake should be found out.

Gopi's name was cut due to the weakness of NOC and Athletics Association.

Saraswati, who had gone to Tokyo instead of Gopi, could not prepare for a month. NOC made it public that Indra Kumari Mall would be her coach at the beginning. However, NOC said that they could not get Malla to participate in the Olympics as Corona was positive and said that they would take Santosh Shrestha. Santosh is the same trainer who has been training Gopichandra who could not go to Tokyo.

Even though Gopichandra was sure to play in the Olympics, there was controversy when the Athletics Association and NOC recommended the name of a different coach. After Gopi could not go, both the coaches left the Olympic scene. Indra Kumar Malla became Saraswati's coach. But he also could not go at the last moment. Her covid report showed that there was a difference in gender and age, so she was suspected and tested again, but it turned out to be negative. She then responded that it was unfair.

The Olympic journey of athletics, which started with the Gopi case, has reached the end without a manager. It remains to be seen how Saraswati will perform in the Olympics.

As before, this time too, the jumbo team of the player-less official was criticized from the beginning of the Olympic journey.

Although the list for the Olympics was cut due to Kovid 19, there was a team of 17 officials except for five players and four coaches. Three of them did not go to the Olympics.

There were 23 participants from Nepal. Gaurika reached Japan from the UK. One of the Japanese embassy staff and local staff were from Japan.

Twenty players including four players, four coaches, and 12 officials from Nepal had reached Tokyo.
