Nepal's condition for unity

Senior Leader of the Main Opposition CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the second-generation leaders working for the resolution of the ongoing dispute in the party to appoint Jhala Nath Khanal as the second chairman.

Saying that party president KP Sharma Oli is ready to make Nepal the second president with rights, he put forward the condition that Khanal should be made the second president after the second generation leaders increased the pressure for unity. He said that even if a new generation leader is given this responsibility, it will be valid. "I understand KP's statement," said one of the leaders who attended the meeting, quoting Nepal.

Especially after the second-generation leaders kept urging him to join Oli, Nepal said that it did not need a second president and did not believe that Oli would give it. Even though the second-generation leaders have said that Oli will give the second president on paper, they are not ready to believe Nepal.

It has been seven years since the UML General Convention was held in June 2071 BS. In the past, the General Convention was held every five years, but now two years have passed and Nepal has been saying that it would not be appropriate for Oli to remain as the chairperson. There is a provision in the UML constitution that a leader who has reached the age of 70 should retire from the party. In this regard, voices have been raised that Oli should step down from his post. Although Oli amended the provision of the constitution to suit him, the Nepali side has rejected the amendment without its involvement.

Nepal's Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Ghanshyam Bhusal, and Gokarna Bisht have been saying that Oli is soft and very truthful. However, Oli recently targeted the Nepali side and called those working undisciplined in the party 'amnesty granted'. Leader Nepal has become even more outraged by that. Nepal had objected to Oli's statement saying, "His Excellency His Majesty the King has made a statement. Oli then clarified that the apology would be given by the party and not by him.

Nepal says that Oli should apologize for dissolving the House of Representatives, not for himself. He said that Nepal was ready to retire from the leadership and that someone else would take the lead. However, the participants in the meeting were of the view that Nepal should take the responsibility as others could not defeat Oli.

Nepal has even suggested the second-generation leaders take the initiative to form a secretariat of three leaders in the Communist Party like Keshar Jung Rayamajhi, Tulsilal Amatya, and Pushpalal Shrestha in the past. He suggested that Oli, Khanal, and Bamdev Gautam could be included in the three-member secretariat. "I don't need any post," said one leader, quoting Nepal.
