Three people, including two members of the same family, have been killed in a landslide in the Darchula district. Two people were killed and another died when a landslide buried their house at Chaukhutte near Naugadh Gaonpalika-3 Khar, police said.
Chief of the District Police Office, Darchula, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manohar Bhatta said that 72-year-old Geuli Thagunna and her 3-month-old granddaughter Manjari Thagunna were killed in the landslide.
According to DAP Bhatta, 29-year-old Laxman Sitauli of the same place also died in the landslide. The bodies of all three have been recovered from the landslide. He said that Harmati Thagunna, 18, of Naugadh Gaonpalika-3 was slightly injured in the landslide.
The hydropower project was flooded
The Khar Khola Second Micro Hydropower Project with a capacity of 32 kW in Naugadh Gaonpalika-3 has also been flooded. According to SP Bhatta, the floods in the river after incessant rains have washed away all the structures of the hydropower project.
He said that the river also washed away the suspension bridge connecting Khar and Jamir, three RCC bridges under construction, three ghats and three water sources.
A team under the command of a police inspector has been deployed to rescue the people trapped in the landslide at the place, which is about an eight-hour walk from the district headquarters.
Police said that rescue operation is underway with the help of locals.
