Government draws attention to climate change from floods and landslides

Kathmandu: Members of the National Assembly have drawn the attention of the government to provide immediate relief to the people affected by floods, landslides, and inundation and to work effectively in the treatment and prevention of Covid-19.

During today's special meeting of the National Assembly, CPN (UML) 's Indira Devi Gautam pointed out the need for necessary coordination among the stakeholders for the effective implementation of the programs brought by the government in the budget. He also suggested the government make necessary preparations for the prevention of the Covid-19 virus.

Anita Devkota of the Nepali Congress accused the current government of working against the values of democracy and said that the government should focus on taking the House as a dignified and public interest body. He demanded to provide proper relief to the flood and landslide victims and ensure adequate vaccination for the people affected by COVID-19.

Taraman Swar of the CPN (Maoist Center) accused the government of failing to come up with reform programs to address the economic, social, educational, and tourism sectors of the country. He said, "Cooperation is needed to preserve the achievements achieved based on consensus among the political parties that are co-passengers in the movement for the establishment of democracy, but the Prime Minister has not been able to play an effective role in that." The government has dissolved the House of Representatives against the law, system, and principles. ”

Pramila Kumari of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal said that the people of Saptari and Sunsari were scared as the flow of Saptakoshi increased due to the floods caused by continuous rains. He said, 'Work by planning to control the floods, provide relief to the victims. He said that the decision of the Prime Minister that the decision of the President could not be tested by the court was against democracy and the constitution.

On the occasion, Gangakumari Belwase of the CPN (Maoist Center) said that some people were spreading false propaganda by raising the issue of people's war. Dr. Bimala Rai Poudel, Nominated Member of the National Assembly, drew attention to the use of indecent language against the President and other esteemed institutions on social media.

UML's Shanti Kumari Adhikari said that the tension between the federal and state jurisdictions had sent the wrong message to the people. He also demanded the government provide incentive allowance to the employees working at the forefront in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

Independent member Dr. Khim Lal Devkota said that even though most of the responsibilities of Singha Durbar had reached the village, the unconditional grant provided by the association was less than that. He remarked that the tradition of spending local budget for the construction of temples and view towers as per the wishes of the accessors was not appropriate.

UML's Sumitra BC demanded immediate and long-term relief from the flood, landslide, and inundation of affected people. He drew the attention of the government to distribute the vaccine against corona in a systematic manner so that it is accessible to all and to provide special allowance to those who work hard at the forefront.

UML's Parashuram Meghi Gurung said that the melting of snow in Nepal's mountains has increased due to the rising temperature of the earth, adding that it would affect human life. Stating that it is time to think about the impact of climate on the agricultural system and livelihood, he stressed the need for everyone's contribution to the protection of air, water, and soil for survival.
