Free health insurance for all by the village municipality

Syangja: The Kaligandaki village municipality is going to provide health insurance to all the locals. Under the 'Healthy Kaligandaki Program', the citizens here will be able to avail the facility of free health insurance. Included in the policy and program of the Fiscal Year 2087/89, this program has been passed by the village council. Accordingly, 32-year-old Buddhikala Damai has health insurance.

After the village municipality pays Rs. 100,000 per family annually for health insurance, the locals will get the services provided by the insured free of cost. Village Municipality Chairman Khim Bahadur Thapa said that work has been started to extend the health insurance facility started by Dalit and single women to all families by September.

"There are about 700 households in the village municipality and the annual cost for them is 20 million rupees," said Chairman Thapa. "We manage all this from internal sources." As per the census of 2068 BS, there are 22,725 people in this village municipality. However, the village municipality has stated that it has reached about 28,000 now.

Health insurance considers a family of five as one unit. If there are more than five members, an additional Rs. 700 per person should be added. Under the program, every citizen does not have to spend up to Rs 1 lakh for treatment from a listed hospital.
