Former Speaker Mahara was also cleared by the High Court

Kathmandu. Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has also been cleared by the Patan High Court in a rape case.

A bench of Justices Madhav Prasad Pokhrel and Vimal Subedi on Tuesday upheld the decision of the Kathmandu District Court, said Amrita Kumari Sharma, spokesperson of the Patan High Court.

Former Speaker Mahara was accused of rape by an employee of the Parliament Secretariat. Due to the same allegations, Mahara had to resign from the post of Speaker.

However, the victim had appeared in the district court and stated that Mahara had not raped her. The district court then ruled that there was insufficient evidence in the rape claim.
