Born in a village in China in 2018, Jin Guowei was in deep debt. At the time, he was selling fruit to tourists on the streets of Lijiang, Greece.

But today he is popularly known on social media as Brother Pomegranate (Pomegranate Dai) and now has about 7 million 30,000 followers on Chinese Tiktak, also known as 'Douin'.

Through Duoyin, he sold 30 million Chinese yuan (about 5.52 billion rupees) worth of fruit last year. At one point, he sold pomegranates worth about Rs 110 million in 20 minutes.

This is an example of China's emerging rural entrepreneurship in recent times. In recent times, farmers in rural China have been marketing and selling their products online through live streaming and short videos.

According to Douyin, an app from China's Bitdance Limited, farmers' income from the app is growing 15-fold each year. Another farmer, Guo Chengcheng, has about 2.5 million followers in Douin. Through his video, consumers have been buying his agricultural produce.

She used to take about 100 orders a day through the business service at Vichat, but now she is taking 50,000 orders daily through Douin. She is currently earning Rs. 165.7 million monthly through Douin Live Streaming.

Guo and Brother Pomegranate (Honor Dai) are the only representative characters. Many young people like him are now earning millions by selling agricultural produce through social media.

According to Douin, about 54 percent of those who sell agricultural produce through live streaming are young migrant workers. About 203 million migrant workers lost their jobs and returned to their villages due to the Corona epidemic.

The home delivery business of fresh vegetables skyrocketed after consumers were locked inside their homes due to the Corona epidemic. As a result, farmers are now selling their produce directly to farmers through social media at their own prices.
