Bardia. Elephant terror has not stopped in the intermediate zone of Bardia National Park. Locals are worried as a herd of elephants is destroying houses and destroying food. When the elephants start to hurt, the locals are forced to stay behind the door like a family. Hiradevi Tharu of Geruwa Sarkhaul has complained that the elephants are causing them a lot of pain and causing them daily damage.

According to Tulsi Adhikari of Geruwa-2, Rajipur, the elephants lost their food and the elephants could not get out. He complained that the local government did not take care of them even though the elephants were causing them grief.

The elephants have also attacked and damaged the power transmission line made to prevent panic. On top of that, all the wires have been covered with weeds. The investment has been wasted due to the lack of security of solar electric machines and electric fences made by the government by investing crores of rupees. Local Phulmaya Tharu has demanded that they be given protection like the park conservation officer.

Chief Conservation Officer Bishnu Prasad Shrestha said that the Bardiya National Park has repaired the solar electric machine and electric fence made for the elephant enclosure to prevent possible damage from the elephants. He claims that the park has added security sirens and continuously sent patrol teams of the Nepal Army.

The structures built by investing crores of rupees in the name of the elephant barrier are now in ruins. They have become accustomed to the behavior of the local government here. If the long-term plan is not made by stopping the annual investment in the name of elephant terror prevention, the locals will surely suffer for many more years. Therefore, the stakeholders need to pay attention in time.
