Kathmandu.
What is the reality of this? Is it true that illegal mobile phones will be switched off from Saun? What happens to mobiles brought from abroad? What happens when a foreigner visits Nepal? We are presenting the information of all these things here.
Before that, it is necessary to understand the condition of MDMS. According to NEA, illegal mobile blocking cannot be started immediately from Saun. Because the entire work of MDMS has not been completed yet. Due to Kovid, there was some delay in the supply of necessary equipment for MDMS.
The system is not working even though the goods have arrived. However, it remains to be integrated into the telecommunications service provider's system. This means that it may take another two / three months to block the illegal mobile.
If so, what will happen in July?NEA will have a complete system of MDMS in Chabahil. As the work was not completed immediately, the necessary system has been set up at the National Information Technology Center inside Singha Durbar. Initially, NEA will 'turn on the system from August, which will keep a complete record of mobiles entering Nepal.
As the customs department has access to the system, the mobile phones imported from abroad will be approved based on whether they have type approval or not and whether the mobile equipment identity (IMEI) has been registered or not. As a result, unregistered mobiles will be banned from the system.
It is said that it will automatically stop illegally imported mobiles. When the system is fully operational, the system will begin blocking illegal mobile phones.
How is blocking done? The system will have access to mobile service importers, NEA, customs office and police. In which the mobile importer will work to register the IMEI number of the mobile he is importing and get the type approval. The rest of the body will approve and regulate on that basis.
Based on the IMEI number provided by the mobile importer, the customs department will give approval for importing the mobile. That said, there will be mobile blocks coming from outside.
What happens to mobile phones coming from abroad and carried by tourists? The user will have seven days to bring the mobile phone brought by the foreigner for the relatives, the mobile phone he is using and the mobile phone brought by the tourist. This means that when you come to Nepal and put the SIM here in the mobile, the mobile will work for seven days from that day.
This does not mean that it will happen after seven days. However, for that, the user has to register in the system seven days in advance. For that, the system will automatically detect the use of the SIM in the new mobile and will provide all the necessary links to register the user by texting.
You can register online from the link in the message. But, for that, if you have brought a new mobile for someone, you have to include the bill for buying the mobile.
If you have been using it for a long time and do not have a bill, you will be able to register with your passport information. For this, the fee prescribed by the customs office will have to be paid.
This process will also apply to tourists visiting Nepal. However, if a tourist comes roaming on his SIM, there is no hassle of registering.
What happens to old mobile? The NEA has stated that this rule will not apply to the phones used in the old days. This means that the mobiles that have come into use till July and bought by paying VAT bills will continue to run.
What is the demand of the businessman?Deepak Malhotra, president of the Mobile Importers Association of Nepal, says, "We are saying that in the case of individuals and tourists, it should be allowed to run for 15 days only after registration." For that, the bill and password should be mandatory. The rest of the mobiles had to be put on the 'red list' and shut down.
It is believed that Nepali users will be safe from fake mobiles. On the other hand, the government can also get revenue. Not only that, if you buy a mobile phone in Nepal, users will get a warranty, service and other facilities.
