Birgunj. Police have arrested an accused who was absconding after selling illegal drug opium.
Amjad Mian Churihar, 53, of Sonwarsha in Paterwa Sugauli Gaonpalika-1 has been arrested five months after he was accused of selling 8 kg and 50 grams of opium.
The Area Police Office, Pokhriya, had seized 8 kg and 50 grams of opium from Kalikamai Gaonpalika-1, Tindobia of Parsa on September 7. Police found 50 grams of opium wrapped in cloth under the sofa of 40-year-old Khobhari Prasad's house and 8 kg of opium in a white plastic bag in the paddy field of manager Raut Kurmi.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Khobhari's father Gambhira Raut Kurmi, Murphy Mian alias Samullah Alam of the village, and Nazir Alam, 35, were also involved in the incident. He had given a statement that he had bought opium from Amjad in a planned manner with the investment of an Indian smuggler.
Police Inspector Deepak Thapa of Area Police Office Pokhariya said that they managed to arrest Amjad who was absconding after the incident.
"After the incident, Amjad had gone into hiding in Pancharukhi, Pancharukhi, West Champaran, India. The locals rescued him from the vehicle when they tried to arrest him with the help of Indian police," he said.
The plan to buy it from Churihar at a cheaper price and sell it in India was foiled after a police raid. They had planned to sell drugs to Dinesh Gupta, 60, of Motihari Station, West Champaran District, Bihar, Rakesh Rai Bhar, 25, of Betiya Sikta, West Champaran District, Bihar, and Mahesh Rai Bhar, 28, of Betiya, Bihar.
