A village: where I no longer have the right to be a mother!

Hetauda: A village in Makwanpur where it is difficult to find a mother with less than five children.

Two children in a changing society: Despite being called a gift from God, Chepang women in Manhari Gaonpalika-4, a new settlement in Makwanpur, are still forced to give birth to more than five children.

Some are waiting for a son, some are waiting for a daughter, and some are giving birth to three to six children, even though their bodies cannot afford to work.

The women of the new settlement, who are also very weak financially, no longer have the right to say that I will not become a mother. She waits for her husband to tell her when she will not have any more children and for her to stop the pain of childbirth.

Women who are far from access to education support their children with their husband's wages. The house is full of children but the food is empty. The women there are forced to go in search of food to feed their hungry children if one day their husbands are not able to work.

Women who have problems eating in the morning and in the evening are forced to have more children than they can raise. As a result, the children there have not been able to get the necessary nutritious food or proper education.

Sabita Praja, 30, of Naya Basti, got married at the age of 13. She has given birth to six children and now has five children, including four daughters and a son.

Three children are 15 months apart. Which can be seen playing in his lap at once. She had not been able to have children for five years after she got married.

After enduring many tortures for not being able to have a child for five years, her sad day that started after giving birth to her first child is now over after giving birth to a son. She was humiliated when she gave birth to her first child, a daughter who was born in the hope of her son.

After giving birth to her second child, she was despised by her husband and family. After the birth of her daughter, she faced another charge. Not only was she accused of killing the child herself and having an affair with a stranger, but Sabita also had to beat her husband severely during her pregnancy.

Giving birth to a daughter in the third and fourth place, she was tortured so much by her family and husband that there is no limit to it. Unable to bear it, Sabita had to leave her daughters at home and move to Maite. About two months later, her husband came to pick her up and tricked her into returning home. When they reached home, a son was born as their fifth child. Probably after the birth of her son, Sabita realized that she had found life.

But not a single son reached her husband. 'One son, one eye. What can one eye see? Saying this, the husband pressured her to give birth to another son. But even after giving birth to a daughter, he came to the conclusion that he would not have any more children, 'said Sabita.

Where is she now trying to kill her daughter in her arms? 'I asked everyone in the village, went to the hospital and asked me to give them medicine to kill my child, but no one gave it. The hospital said it would cost money to have the baby, but I didn't have the money. Then I was forced to give birth to a daughter, 'she said of the sad past.

While saying this, his eyes were watering and his heart was pounding. But she was able to control herself, and she said that she had given birth to a son. 'Now my husband never beats me. Instead, sometimes you bring fish and meat out of love. He loves his son and daughter equally, 'she said happily.

There is a story like Sabita's, remembering the people too. She gave birth to a son only two years ago and is now her husband's sweetheart. After giving her son a gift to her husband after having four daughters, she started to get her husband's love. Samjhana, who was not allowed to enroll in the school, got married at the age of 15. After her father's death, she is waiting for her mother to remarry.

She has been working in other people's houses since she was a child without any guardians.

"It simply came to our notice then. After that, after giving birth to my daughter for the second time, he started torturing me. No one in the house ever touched my daughter or treated me well. Instead, they used to say that only a daughter was born from the society, 'Samjhana expressed her grief.

The desire to have a son was not dead. For the third and fourth time, she gave birth to a daughter, which caused Samjhana to be beaten by her husband for many nights. 'Finally, for the fifth time, I was lucky enough to have a son,' said Samjhana excitedly. Since the birth of her son, she has not been beaten by her husband, has not been despised at home, and has been able to walk into society with her head held high as the 'mother of her son'

The story of Bismita Praja of the same village is slightly different. Bismita tells the story of her daughter Rahar while standing with Sabita and Samjhana who endured many tortures in the hope of her son. She became the mother of three sons in 25 years and got married at the age of 15. She gave birth to three children in a row in the hope of having a daughter. She gave birth to a son only a month ago.

'My husband was very interested in my daughter and I thought I would have a daughter too. But if Khoi has given birth to a son three times, now we have to decide whether to get another or not, 'Bismita said, gesturing to wait for her husband's decision.

There are also 12 to 16 elderly women in the village who are expecting a son. They seem to readily admit to having two or six children.
