Nepal Telecom Authority has allocated Rs. 800 million to keep Nepal's own satellite. This budget has been allocated as an initial preparation to place Nepal's satellite in the annual program recently approved by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

As per the approved program, Rs. 500 million has been allocated for the project from the Rural Telecommunication Fund. An action plan for the satellite project has also been decided in the annual program.

Accordingly, the target is to publish the bids for the launch of satellite launch and ground station by the third quarter of the current Fiscal Year 2078/79, i.e. by mid-April, and to select the eligible institution by mid-July. A budget of Rs. 200 million has been set for bidding and Rs. 300 million for selection of institutions.

Similarly, a plan to make necessary acts and rules under the development program to establish Nepal's own satellite is also included in the annual program. For which a budget of Rs. 200 million has been allocated.

However, Nepal's satellite project is not new. It has been discussed for a long time and the government has been allocating the budget for the program. But no satisfactory progress has been made in the direction of implementation.
